Dry ice is made of solid carbon dioxide (CO2) and sublimes rather than melts when exposed to a pressure of approximately 1013 mbar (1 atmosphere). In the normal pressure range it cannot get warmer than -78.4°C. It even freezes under low pressure. It is white and odorless. Inhaling the vapors can cause irritation to the mucous membranes as carbon dioxide is produced.
